Calcutta Commies

Have spent the past couple of days with my wonderful friends Bhaskar and Bishnu, who are from Kolkata (but who I met in the US where they have been living for the past 20 years).  Yesterday we began our Kolkata tour in earnest at the Victoria Memorial Hall where they have a quite detailed exhibit on the history of the city, its culture and politics.

After that we walked around a bit, visited with Bishnu’s relatives and ate Kati rolls (Kolkata’s version of the frankie, yum) and tons of mishti (sweets, yum yum). It is monsoon season in Kolkata, and it has been raining cats and dogs on and off the entire time, which for some reason I find rather calming.
