India’s 60th independence day celebration happened yesterday, and we all took part. Basically, we sat around the house eating and drinking and trying to fly kites (which is a big thing to do here on independence day). Digraj’s sister and brother in law (Ashoo and Kabir) came in from Mumbai joining a few other guests, and we all had a fine time drinking and eating and being silly.

Tonight I leave on the train to Kolkata (Calcutta), where I will meet up with old friends (Bhaskar and Bishnu). It feels a little sad to be saying goodbye to the family here, not knowing when I will see them next. Knowing that I am going back to the states in a few weeks has put a small sense of finality (real or imagined) on my interactions with close friends here.
