Booking Chaos

Welcome to India. I want to do something simple, like go to Goa by train. Been trying to book train travel online, then via travel agent, then going to the station, then online again. At each point something fails. I can look up the info online and usually prefer to book that way, but I can’t book toursit quota online. And of course the train I want only has a few tourist quota seats available.  So I pass the info to a travel agent, who is unable to book for me as well, telling me to go to CST (old VT) station in Mumbai to book at the foreign tourist counter with my passport. I arrive at the station and it is utter chaos. I finally wiggle my way up to the counter (doesn’t anyone queue up here?) and the guy tells me there is one seat left, then gives me a form to fill out, even though I have all the info (inlcuding train number) printed on a sheet. So I fill out the form and hand it to him after some serious line position jockying, only to have him tell me that there are no seats left after all. So I go back online to see that the site is now down. Ugh.

You have to just go with the flow here. I’ll get there when I get there. Maybe I’ll take a bus, maybe I’ll even fly. Stay tuned, I’ll figure it out eventually.
